About Mads Merritt

Mads grew up in rural Northwest Florida, never coming across a city until she was in her twenties and started traveling with her McNair Scholars cohort. She entered university with the idea that if other people could learn the math behind physics, she could, too. Four years later she emerged with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Engineering and an interest in alternative green infrastructures. Mads went on to complete her Master’s in Earth Science and Ecology.

Shortly after graduation, she opened her first business, a plant nursery named Chaos Plant Company, whose focus was to provide beginner friendly house and small garden plants for urban residents. This was in line with her belief that transient gardens in rental and non-landed dwellings deserved more attention with respect to their contribution to city greenspaces.

Chaos Plant Company lasted until the onset of Covid lockdowns, and Mads is presently working through her Master of Landscape Architecture with the intent of taking on greater breadth of work related to urban green spaces and planning.
